Sacraments
The Sacraments of Reconciliation (Penance) and First Holy Communion
Our Catholic 2nd graders prepare for the sacraments of Penance and First Holy Communion, while our non-Catholic 2nd grade students learn about these important sacraments in the Catholic faith. All learn together how God's plan of mercy and love for us are experienced through these holy and wonderful sacraments, which are truly a gift from God.
Confirmation
Starting in 7th grade, our students begin to prepare for the sacrament of Confirmation; they are confirmed in 8th grade. The purpose of Confirmation is to perfect in us what was begun in Baptism, receiving a grace that strengthens and deepens our faith, not only for our own needs, but for the needs of others. As Jesus promised, "You shall receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, and you shall be witnesses for Me.....even to the very ends of the earth." (Acts 1:8)
Catholic students who belong to another Roman Catholic parish
Holy Family School has many students who belong with their families to a Roman Catholic Church other than Holy Family Church. In these instances, the parents/guardians must provide HFS a letter from the Pastor of their home parish, granting permission for the child to receive the Sacrament at Holy Family Church with their classmates.
Students and parents who are not Catholic
While these students will receive all the same training and education on the individual Sacraments of Reconciliation, First Holy Communion and Confirmation, and will participate in any projects or activities related to same, they will not actually receive the Sacraments with their classmates.
In the event a parent wishes to convert to Catholicism, they are referred to Donna Ely, Director of Religious Education for Holy Family Church, to enter the RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation for Aduls) program. If a student enters Holy Family School with no previous religious education, but his or her parents want the student to receive the Sacraments, Mrs. Ely will contact the family about working with the child. For information or questions, please call Mrs. Ely at 610-759-2623 or email her.
Autistic Students
Donna Ely, Director of Religious Education for Holy Family Church, is able to provide parents/guardians with options for Sacramental preparations at home. For more information, please call Mrs. Ely at 610-759-2623 or email her.
